Students at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine reached out to the Roanoke community as part of the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Virginia's Medicine and Health Day. The students were joined by other medical professionals, including fire department personnel.

Medical students taught concepts as basic as the benefits of proper hand washing to how the heart and lungs work to demonstrating different diagnostic techniques. A portable ultrasound machine showed club members how their own bodies worked.

The Boys and Girls Club of Southwest Virginia is part of the nation’s fastest growing youth development agency. The organization is committed to the positive development of quality after-school and summer programming for all youth residing in the region.
