The Evolution and Function of Potassium Channels From the Inside Out

April 30, 2015, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Gail Robertson, PhD, Professor of Neuroscience, University of Wisconsin - Madison, Wisconsin

Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, M106

This lecture will recount the unlikely pathway to discovery that led to safer drugs and has illuminated our understanding of sudden cardiac death, epilepsy, and even cancer. Dr. Robertson will discuss how the biophysical and molecular properties of potassium channels specify their roles in the heart and brain and cause disease when their function is perturbed.
