FA-5004 VTCSOM Curriculum Vitae Guidelines and Format

1.0      Purpose

The curriculum vitae (CV) for the VTC School of Medicine is the primary document containing one’s accomplishments relevant to appointment, re-appointment, promotion, and tenure within the school. The CV provides a uniform format for inclusion of much of the relevant information the departmental and school promotion and tenure committees will consider. As such, the CV should be comprehensive and capture as much of the activity of a given faculty member as possible.  The CV has been designed to be appropriate for use by medical school faculty.

2.0      Policy

All faculty are required to enter and regularly update all professional development, teaching, scholarly activities, committee work, and other service provided to VTC School of Medicine and related health system entities in an online faculty tracking database. The faculty member or the administrative support person assigned by the primary department or organization is responsible for entering all information into the database.  Faculty are responsible for reviewing their records for accuracy on an on-going basis. Once all information is added into the database, an initial draft of the CV in the required format can automatically be created by the database in an editable Microsoft Word document.  The initial draft can then be further edited and finalized by the faculty member.  Further information on the required faculty database system can be found on the VTC School of Medicine’s Faculty Affairs webpage.

It is reasonable to recall that the updated CV is a comprehensive listing of accomplishments by a faculty member, while the academic portfolio (prepared based on university guidelines) is evidence of those accomplishments.

3.0      Procedures

The official VTCSOM CV template provided is the format generally required by the VTCSOM APT Committee at the time of promotion. The template is intended to encourage uniformity and consistency in the listing of one's accomplishments, all of which must be added into the appropriate fields within the faculty database system in order for the initial draft of the CV to be successfully created.  Further information about the CV template is available from the Office of Faculty Affairs.
