FA-5011 Title IX Harassment and Discrimination

1.0       Purpose

VTCSOM is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and non-discriminatory environment for all members of our community in all aspects of living, learning, and working. To that end, the university does not discriminate, nor tolerate discrimination, on the basis of sex (including pregnancy), gender, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, or on any other basis protected by law. Pursuant to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, this procedure exists to eliminate, address, and prevent the recurrence of the prohibited conduct described herein, and provide for a fair and impartial process for making the determination about whether prohibited conduct occurred.

2.0       Policy

VTCSOM adheres to university policies related to Title IX, including those found in the Virginia Tech faculty handbook and university policies 1025 and 1026.  VTCSOM is committed to ensuring compliance with Title IX and works in coordination with the university to effectively and efficiently respond to complaints of sex discrimination, including complaints of sexual harassment.  

3.0       Procedures

The university’s Director of Title IX Compliance is designated as the Title IX Coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for monitoring institutional compliance with Title IX and with this procedure. Questions about Title IX, as well as any concerns or complaints about possible non-compliance with Title IX or with this procedure, should be directed to the Title IX Coordinator:

The Title IX Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the effective implementation of supportive measures; ensuring the university’s prompt and equitable response to any formal complaint of Title IX sexual harassment; coordinating the university’s internal Title IX-related training programs, and maintaining records of Title IX-related complaints and reports and any response thereto in accordance with state and federal laws.

VTCSOM also has a designated Title IX liaison who can assist with discussions about potential Title IX issues and related training procedures.

All VTCSOM faculty members will attest to the receipt of and adherence to this policy and VT policies 1025 and 1026 via the annual medical education program standards attestation (MEPSA) process administered by the Office of Educational Affairs.
