GA-1012 VTCSOM Safety & Weather Notification Alerts
1.0 Purpose
This guideline is in accordance with Virginia Tech University Authorized Closings Policy 5600 for Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM). VTCSOM follows the policy per 2.1.2 Authorized Closings (vt.edu) (Policy 5600).
2.0 Guideline
Virginia Tech Carilion Health Sciences & Technology Facilities (Roanoke)
The decision to close any university operations on the Virginia Tech Carilion Health Sciences and Technology (HS&T) campus in Roanoke will be made by the Vice President for Health Science and Technology or designee.
3.0 Procedures
The following steps outline the procedure for VTCSOM closing.
- Notification of class cancellation for weather or other emergencies will occur through email, WSLS10 and WDBJ7, and the VTCSOM website. Consider downloading the news station apps for easy access to updates.
- Make-up is at the discretion of the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education.
- For Years 3 and 4 (Phases 2 and 3), there will be no assumed cancellation due to inclement weather. If clinical activities are cancelled, the Clerkship or Rotation Director will be in touch with the affected students individually.
- Students can also download VT alerts to get notifications: https://www.alerts.vt.edu/
- VTCSOM and HS&T campus has an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and key personnel have been identified and trained to support it should an emergency or disaster (e.g., medical, weather, fire, power outage) occur.
