But Still You Are Good
Paul Varghese
My ears had heard, but now my eyes have seen,
That You are good—yes, You are always good.
I have tasted Your goodness; this grace now covers me,
Not only when You give gifts and pleasant things,
But even in my trials.
You are good when my light is dim and I am faint.
You are good when I breathe the dust in the depths of the pit.
You are good when I am in sorrow and find no strength to stand.
My ears had heard, but now my eyes have seen.
When the world shook around me
And everything seemed to fall apart,
Chasing lesser glories, I fell into despair, and all became dark.
But in the darkness, I saw the light,
And the light overcame the darkness.
Now there is no fear though the earth gives way,
Though the mountains tremble
Or the waters roar and foam.
You are my refuge, my strength,
My help in trouble.
My ears had heard, but now my eyes have seen.
Out of the depths, I cry to You.
When I walk through troubling times,
Still, You are good.
Restore to me the joy of my salvation.
In disappointment, I remember Your grace again.
My name is written in the book of heaven;
My assurance is sure—the Shepherd will never leave.
I will arise to glory, my God, because you have made known the path of life.
These momentary afflictions will pass away,
But Your Word shall not.
So as I am faced with these trials,
I will remember:
Still, You are good.
"Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit."
