Story: Community invited to attend dedication for remembrance wall

Published Oct. 12, 2016: The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine will dedicate a remembrance wall in honor of charter class student Caroline Osborne. Osborne was diagnosed with cancer during her third year of medical school and passed away in 2014. Her family started a scholarship in her name.

The remembrance wall features a quilt made with pieces of her classmates' white coats along with photos, art work, and words submitted by students to describe Caroline.

Published Oct. 23, 2016: The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine dedicated a remembrance wall in honor of Caroline Osborne on Friday, Oct. 21. Caroline's family; Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine alumni, students, faculty, and staff; and community members gathered to honor her memory and unveil the wall.

Story: First Caroline Osborne Memorial Scholarship awarded

Published: Nov. 1, 2016: Amie Calimlim is the first recipient of the Caroline Osborne Memorial Scholarship. Calimlim is the first member of her family to go to college. She was born in England and moved to the United States when she was 19. She joined the U.S. Air Force, serving as an EMT, where she developed an interest in studying medicine. She is the proud mother of twin 6-year-old boys.

Excerpt: "Left with this terrible loss, we as the first proud classes of VTC alumni have a chance to move on and take full advantage of these lives we too often take for granted. There is no way to replace Caroline, but there is every reason to try to do good in the world as she would have done."

Class of 2015 Class Gift in Support of the Caroline Osborne Memorial Scholarship

To commemorate their four years at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and to mark graduation, members of the Class of 2015 made a class gift by which to be remembered. They have chosen to dedicate their gift to the Caroline Osborne Memorial Scholarship, which honors the memory of Caroline, who was a member of the school’s Charter Class.
