The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine has a new Dean’s Council on Advancement, made up of a diverse group of 20 individuals who are committed to the success of the school.

The council had its first official meeting Sept. 7-8 at the medical school in Roanoke, Virginia. The council is made up of volunteers who are tasked with advancing the stature of the school by providing guidance, assistance, advocacy, and philanthropic investment in support of the school’s strategic objectives.

The founding members of the council include:

  • Nancy Howell Agee, CEO and president of Carilion Clinic;
  • Nancy Artis, vice president of Performance Associates, Inc.;
  • Ellen Beville, retired manager of quality systems and plant auditing for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Danville, Virginia;
  • Alexander Boone, president of Alexander Real Estate Group, Ltd.;
  • Frank Clark, general adult psychiatrist for the Greenville Health System’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine and clinical assistant professor for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine;
  • Jay Foster, CEO of Flex Metrics;
  • Ashley Gerrish, general surgery resident for Carilion Clinic – Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and 2014 graduate of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine;
  • Daniel Harrington, vice president for academic affairs for Carilion Clinic and vice dean for the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine;
  • Janet Johnson, dean emerita of the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and professor emerita of human nutrition, foods, and exercise and Virginia Tech;
  • George Levicki, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Virginia;
  • Priscilla McCall, vice president and secretary of C&S Distributing, Inc. in Greensboro, North Carolina;
  • Chris McLaughlin, general surgery resident for Penn State Hershey Medical Center and 2017 graduate of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine;
  • Rohini Mehta, psychiatry resident for Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, and 2015 graduate of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine;
  • Joseph Moskal, chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery for Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine;
  • Kathy Oelschlager, owner of Provisions Gourmet and RSVP;
  • Charles Schleupner, chair of the Institutional Review Board for Carilion Clinic and professor of internal medicine for the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine;
  • Sidney Smith, professor of medicine for the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill;
  • Katie Trigonis, family medicine resident for Carolinas HealthCare System and 2016 graduate of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine;
  • Mark Watts, family physician for Carilion Family Medicine – Vinton and clinical preceptor for the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine;
  • Jackie Wieland, first vice president/investments for Stifel Investment Services in Greensboro, North Carolina;

“As a new school, we asked our founding faculty, students, and staff to help us build the school and innovate. We are asking the same of the founding members of this council,” said Cynda Ann Johnson, founding dean of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. “I look forward to working with this group and using their expertise to advance our school.”

Janet Johnson is serving as the council’s chair while Joseph Moskal is supporting in leadership as vice chair.
