Roanoke, VA - Developers broke ground Friday on a 22 acre piece of land in Roanoke that will eventually be home to a ton of new development.

The site sits next to the Virginia Tech/Carilion School of Medicine and was most recently where Roanoke's historic grain silos and a scrap yard used to be.

Over the next 10 years, the plan is to have more than a million square feet of mixed use development. That includes everything from apartments to restaurants.

"And really for the next ten years we really are excited about what it can provide in terms of jobs and revenue for the city," said Brian Townsend, Roanoke's assistant city manager

Work on the project called, "The Bridges", will start next month.
