The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine's Class of 2018 has created a HokieBird for their school.

The school decided to create a HokieBird in honor of the medical school becoming Virginia Tech's ninth college on July 1, according to a release from Virginia Tech.

"Roanoke Hokie, MD" is the name of the HokieBird. The HokieBird was unveiled on May 3 at a graduation dinner honoring the Class of 2018.

A local couple, Kevin and Nancy Dye, covered the cost of purchasing a Geobble de Art bird, like all the other birds seen around the Virginia Tech campus. They said they would cover the cost if all the members of the class donated toward the class gift. All 41 student donated, the release said.

The Class of 2018 worked with artist Heather Gearhart to design the bird.

The bird is on display at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine's lobby. That's located at 2 Riverside Circle in Roanoke.
