Warm welcome for Puerto Rican restaurant in Roanoke

RICHMOND, Va. – Senator Kaine is hosting an event Monday in Richmond to recognize those who have done extraordinary work in Virginia over the last year – some of whom are local, according to the Senator’s office.

Karyna Nevarez, the Inclusion Coordinator at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, will be recognized at the event, the Senator’s office said.

In her role at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Nevarez engages in year-round outreach and engagement with prospective students who are underrepresented in medicine, according to the release.

The Senator’s office said that Nevares also works to enhance cultural competence for the school’s students, staff, and faculty by designing and presenting workshops and trainings through the school’s identity-focused student organization.

Not only that, but Karyna and her husband are also business owners – they opened Delicias Boricuas as a catering business around six years ago, the release said, and earlier this year, the couple opened a Delicias Boricuas restaurant location in Downtown Roanoke.
