Power to Heal: Medicare and the Civil Rights

Documentary screening and discussion

“Power to heal” is an hour long documentary about a dramatic chapter in the historic struggle to secure equal and adequate access to healthcare for all Americans. Central to the story is how a new national program, Medicare, was used to mount a momentous, coordinated effort that desegregated thousands of hospitals across the country practically overnight.

Following the screening we will have a discussion facilitated by Dr. Monica Motley. Dr. Motley is Senior Research Associate and Director of Dr. Kathy Hosig’s community-based research project the focuses on Black churches and health/wellness.
