Andrew C. Herman, MD
Professional Background
Dr. Herman joined Carilion Clinic and VTCSOM as Chair of Pediatrics in June 2025 from Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital where he served as its chief medical officer for 10 years. Dr. Herman also served as Quality Director of Neonatal Services at Levine Children’s Hospital. Dr. Herman completed undergraduate education at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN and graduated summa cum laude from Saint Louis University School of Medicine followed by residency in pediatrics and a fellowship in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine. Dr. Herman has received numerous teaching and quality awards and is a member of the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Alpha Omega Alpha and is a Fellow in the perinatal section of the AAP. He is the inaugural Children’s Miracle Network Endowed Chair of Pediatric Medicine, the first endowed chair for both Carilion Clinic and the Children’s Miracle Network.
Dr. Herman met his wife Amalie in high-school and are proud of their three adult boys. They enjoy traveling, cooking, outdoor activities, and laughing out loud.
