Professional Background

Rosemarie Fernandez, MD, is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine.  Before joining Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, she held several leadership roles at the University of Florida, including Executive Vice Chair of Emergency Medicine and Director of Research for the Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation.  Her scholarship centers on the use of simulation to better understand and enhance team dynamics during resuscitation events.

Dr. Fernandez has served as Principal Investigator on multiple medical education and simulation-focused grants supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Department of Defense, and the State of Washington.  In addition to her funded research, she is deeply engaged in mentorship of both research and education focused faculty.  Dr. Fernandez enjoys spending time with her husband, twin boys, and goldendoodle named George.
