Disclosure & Confidentiality

Students are never obligated to self-disclose their disability to Disability Advocacy & Support Services, other staff members or faculty. However, students with disabilities who wish to obtain accommodations, auxiliary aids and/or services, must self-disclose and are encouraged to do so.

Requesting information is not considered disclosure, however, all inquiries will remain confidential.

Students may disclose a disability and request an accommodation at any time during their enrollment, however, students are encouraged to disclose the need for accommodation(s) as soon as possible. Time for documentation review and arrangement of accommodation(s) is necessary, and may take four to six weeks. Accommodations are not made retroactively.

If a student's needs change at any time, it is the student's responsibility to notify Disability Advocacy & Support Services and discuss possible changes or adjustments to the current accommodations.

Confidentiality

Disability requests and accommodations are held in the strictest confidence. Students who request information are afforded the same confidentiality as those who elect to request and utilize accommodations and other services.

All documentation, correspondence, and student records are kept in a secure location. Once appropriate accommodations have been granted, those tasked with implementing those accommodations do not have access to a student’s diagnostic information.
