PBL Rooms
The team rooms are where the curriculum comes to life. Every block, first and second year students are assigned to a small group of 7 students and one faculty facilitator. Groups rotate every block. Every week, the teams are given a real patient case to evaluate. One Monday, the groups are presented some information about the case. We discuss as a team what we know and what we don’t know about the case. Every student takes home a learning objective and then presents what we learned back to the group on Wednesday. Then, we get a little bit more information about the case and discuss as a group. Again, we each take home a learning objective and present back to our team on Friday. The best part after all of this – is we get to meet the patient, physician, and sometimes the family and friends of the patient to hear what their experience was like. In short, we learn the basic science we need to know for our board exams, but in the context of real patients.
Please note that the actual PBL rooms are not being used during the COVID pandemic.
