Library

Students spend plenty of time in this space – our medical school library. Since the school opened relatively recently – in 2010 – everything feels modern and new. All the books you really need are already here. For students wishing to dive deeper into the material they can access additional resources virtually, or you just put in a request to Virginia Tech to get the desired text sent to our campus. In addition to providing us with access to multiple journals, Virginia Tech [Carilion]'s library also provides funding for medical students to publish in open access journals ourselves. Just this past year alone, the library provided me with over $2000 to support my own research endeavors.

Our library, similar to our class size, is relatively small. The only time it can be difficult to find a study space here however, is when first and second year exams overlap each other. Despite the increased number of people, the library stays quiet at these times.

The space is a very supportive environment during such stressful exam periods, with the library in stocking coffee and tea supplies, and students even bringing in communal snacks for each other. They also make group coffee runs.

Our library, with its modern look and feel, is a space where our students spend plenty of time.
