Dr. Gustavo Pinto is an infectious disease physician with the Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina in Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil, which is one of Roanoke’s sister cities. He recently visited Roanoke and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine to discuss infectious diseases and , more specifically, the Zika virus, HIV and hepatitis.

His visit was also part of preparations for VTC students to visit Brazil and for Brazilian students to visit Roanoke.
