Dario Sorrentino

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Dr. Dario Sorrentino, gastroenterologist with Carilion Clinic and professor of medicine at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.  We learned yesterday that Dr. Sorrentino died from injuries he sustained in a bike accident while vacationing in his native Italy.

An expert in inflammatory bowel diseases, Dr. Sorrentino was a widely respected and beloved colleague who was dedicated to research and mentoring those interested in research careers. He led several acclaimed research studies focusing on the treatment of Crohn’s disease and held a faculty position at the University of Udine Medical School in Italy.

Dr. Sorrentino’s absence leaves a void in our community. Our thoughts, prayers and attention are centered on his family as they navigate this difficult time.
