In support of the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine’s case-based, patient-centered curriculum, 14 dedicated team rooms provide shared space for each six-to-eight person group. Each room contains audiovisual equipment, smart boards, and a range of other presentation media. In addition, each student and facilitator has partitioned carrel space within each room.
Individual Study Space
The first floor of the library offers individual study carrels in a tranquil environment. Situated along a three-story solid glass wall, the space is flooded with natural light.
Student Lounge and Common Area
The Student Commons, a dedicated space on the second floor of the medical school, provides a spacious and comfortable setting for medical students to take a break from their studies. This space overlooks the first floor of the library and offers an informal gathering area, complete with piano.
Also located on the second floor of the building is the medical students’ breakroom. This area is a more active space, with tables and vending machines for quick snacks.
A wellness room is located off the student lounge corridor. This dedicated room offers privacy and comfort for students who require space for personal needs.
Outdoor Meeting Areas
The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC building offers outdoor veranda seating both in the terraced porch behind the building and in the front of the building in sight of the Roanoke Star.
