Committee Charter
Purpose
The VTCSOM Strategic Plan guides our medical school into a vibrant future. In collaboration with our parent university (Virginia Tech), our health system partner (Carilion Clinic) and other community stakeholders, we will understand the challenges and opportunities we face as a medical school and respond with a comprehensive plan to achieve feasible, sustainable and measurable objectives.
Project Scope
The Strategic Planning Committee will consist of members from the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, Virginia Tech and Carilion Clinic. The responsibility and focus of the committee will be to develop our strategic plan within the context of the following priorities of the university’s strategic plan:
- Advance Regional, National, and Global Impact
- Elevate the Ut Prosim (That I May Serve) Difference
- Be a Destination for Talent
- Ensure Institutional Excellence
Goals
The goals of our strategic planning process are to address the following general areas:
- VTCSOM Vision Statement
- VTCSOM Mission Statement
- VTCSOM Values
- Opportunities for VTCSOM to:
- Advance the local, regional, national and global impact of our school
- Elevate the Ut Prosim (That I May Serve) Difference made by our school in our community and beyond
- Be a destination for biomedical sciences and medical education talent
- Ensure institutional excellence in all areas of VTCSOM
We will create a process for ensuring input from a variety of internal and external stakeholder groups. Our final committee report will reflect specific and measurable objectives and success metrics, including recommendations concerning workflows and estimated costs. This process will encourage feedback on the above general areas, including opportunities to improve areas or outcomes which may not currently ideally reflect our vision, mission, or values in the most productive manner.
