Scholarships, Honor Societies, and Awards

Prospective and current students interested in learning about scholarships, honor societies, and/or awards are encouraged to explore the details below.


There are a variety of scholarships available for prospective and current students to explore.  Scholarships are listed below as well as detailed on the Financial Aid and Giving pages of this website.

VTCSOM Endowed Scholarships

Thanks to generous donors, the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine is pleased to be able to offer several privately funded scholarships.

In order to apply for these scholarships, students must submit the FAFSA and scholarship application by the established deadline. The number of scholarships awarded and amounts are subject to change each academic year.

IMPACT Scholarships

(Inclusion improving Medicine, Patient outcomes And Community health with Talent)

The 4-year IMPACT Scholarships are awarded to up to 5 talented incoming VTCSOM students annually to ensure an inclusive student body representing our diverse population and committed to leading improvements in the health of patients and communities. Currently, awards are for $25,000 for 4 academic years totaling $100,000.

Service Scholarships

The two types of service scholarships are the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) and the National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program (NHSC) through the Public Health Service. Both programs currently offer full tuition assistance, reimbursement for books, and a monthly living stipend in exchange for service commitments after school and residency. Service Scholarships

Students must apply directly to the military or the Public Health Service for these programs.

Honor Societies


The Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) recognizes students, residents, and faculty who are exemplars of compassionate patient care and who serve as role models, mentors, and leaders in medicine.


Alpha Omega Alpha is the national medical honor society. Election to Alpha Omega Alpha is an honor signifying a lasting commitment to scholarship, leadership, professionalism, and service.

Aequitas Health Honor Society

The Aequitas Health Honor Society recognizes and honors members of the VTCSOM community who consistently work to promote health equity in our local community.


Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society at Virginia Tech, recognizes and encourages superior leadership and exemplary character.
