Announcement from Dean Lee Learman on August 8:

Dear VTCSOM Community,

As our colleague NL Bishop transitions from his post at Carilion Clinic, I am very pleased to announce that he will continue his engagement with us at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Effective August 1, he transitioned from the senior associate dean position to a new role: community ambassador.

In this role, Dr. Bishop will continue to support diversity, equity and inclusion education and programming, as well as our community engagement efforts, facilitating partnerships with Carilion Clinic to sponsor community events.  He will also be assigned special projects, starting with support for our advancement team’s efforts to build the Henrietta Lacks Scholarship to the endowment level, so it can support full tuition for the student selected to receive it. With this set of cross-cutting responsibilities (DEI, community engagement, advancement), the community ambassador role will report to me and include membership in the Dean’s Cabinet.

“Retirement” is clearly not the right word to describe Dr. Bishop’s unflagging energy and zeal for supporting VTCSOM and our Virginia Tech – Carilion partnership for the benefit of our institutions and community.  We are truly fortunate.

Thanks, NL!
Lee
