Will We Ever Meet?
Mae •
Dear special child,
You must be turning three,
or maybe four this year,
I can’t believe how fast,
you're growing up, my dear.
I wish to light you a candle,
in the month of January,
But knowing your exact birth date,
would be necessary.
Have you learned your colors yet?
Or any of your numbers?
I wonder what you look like…
Perhaps my family members!
With every passing year,
I’ve thought of you a lot,
I’ve yearned to see your face,
and all the features you’ve got.
Is your hair thick and bouncy,
with curls just like my brother’s?
Or does it fall onto your back,
as did my caring grandmother’s?
Do you have a unique laugh,
with a smile so bright and free?
Is it the same one my niece has,
the moment that she sees me?
I knew we would likely never meet,
I feared we may never even speak.
Yet still, I welcomed the unknown,
to help your parents birth…
a child to call their own.
As I take solace in the joy I helped impart,
know you carry forever, a special piece of my heart.
Though separated, your spirit intertwines with mine,
I’ll always feel a bond, silent yet so divine.
Lovingly,
-Your egg donor
