[Dean Lee Learman]: We gather today to celebrate the commencement ceremony of our ninth graduating class from the Virginia Tech Carillon School of Medicine. You have helped our school grow stronger in its reputation for excellence. You have exemplified Virginia Tech's model of Ut Prosim (that I may serve). And I am confident you will continue to do so throughout your careers.
[Cyril Clarke, executive vice president and provost]: As physicians, researchers, academicians and servant leaders. Your success and commitment to improving the human condition will depend on your ability to connect across borders and fields of study and work collaboratively with others in a meaningful ways.
[Donald L. Steinweg, MD, faculty speaker]: In just a few minutes, you will be the doctor, and you're all going to a place where people will be coming to you for guidance. We are convinced that you will be well positioned to earn their trust. Congratulations.
[Nikki Sood O'Neill, alumna class of 2018]: Be excited for the incredible rewarding journey that you're about to embark on. You're going to meet lifelong friends, learn even more than you already have, And finally, have that M.D. at the end of your name.
[William Reis, class of 2022 president]: Four years ago. 43 of us arrived in a city that we had to explain to our friends did not disappear in 1590. It was a city where we were about to take a gigantic gamble on whether we would wind up liking the only 43 people we might know for the next four years. Let me not bury the lede. We loved each other.
[Jacob Hartman-Kenzler, class of 2022 speaker]: I really only have one regret from it all. And it's not that I'd study more or less. It's not the difficult moments that feel so foolish now. My only regret is that I didn't get to know each of you just a little bit better. Each of you are so special and I admire you so much, and your future patients don't know how lucky they are to have you on their team.
[Aubrey Knight, senior dean for student affairs]: Will the incredibly attractive class of 2022, please rise.
[Dean Learman]: I'm very proud to formally welcome the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine Class of 2022 into our profession.
