ProjectMED
The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine's ProjectMED collaboration with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) as well as Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) is a pioneering initiative aimed at addressing the underrepresentation of minority students in the field of medicine. This innovative program is designed to provide comprehensive resources and support systems to prepare students from diverse backgrounds for successful entry into undergraduate medical education.
At the heart of ProjectMED is a commitment to equity and inclusion in healthcare. By partnering with HBCUs and MSIs, the program leverages the rich educational resources and cultural heritage of these institutions to create a nurturing and empowering environment for aspiring medical professionals. ProjectMED aims to bridge the gap between underrepresented minority students and the medical profession.
One of the key components of ProjectMED is its focus on holistic student development. Recognizing that academic excellence alone is not sufficient for success in medical school, the program emphasizes the importance of personal growth, resilience, and community engagement.
Furthermore, ProjectMED is committed to dismantling systemic barriers to diversity in medicine. By fostering a culture of inclusivity within medical institutions, the program seeks to create a more equitable and representative healthcare industry.
