Once upon a time, ten years ago...

Ten years ago, the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine welcomed its charter class. After 20 years during which no new medical schools were established in the U.S., VTCSOM opened amid fanfare as a small but progressive school dedicated to developing physician thought leaders through inquiry, research, and discovery.
For faculty and staff who were here during those early years, it’s hard to believe we are at this milestone already. The feature story Diagnosing the Doctors of Tomorrow that ran in fall 2010 issue of Virginia Tech Magazine provides a wonderful look back on the regional, state, and even national significance of this new school.
Our charter class, the class of 2014, entered a brand new VTCSOM building to begin medical school. Their arrival was celebrated by members of the media and community as well as excited faculty and staff.
