David Gregory, M.D., Family and Community Medicine, was elected President-elect of the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians.
Chinekwu Anyanwu, M.D., Neurology, has completed and received the American Academy of Neurology’s Women Leading in Neurology Program title. She was selected to participate in this elite group of 10 female neurologists from around the country.
Anthony Baffoe-Bonnie, M.D., Medical Director of Infection Control, and Chad Alvarez, Pharm.D., received national recognition by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation as Champions of Humanistic Healthcare for their timeless, compassionate leadership during the pandemic.
Randy Clements, D.P.M., Chief of Foot and Ankle, was an advisor on a team that won the Dan H. Pletta Award for Most Outstanding Senior Project at Virginia Tech Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics for their novel implant device for plantar plate repair.
Bryan Collier, D.O., Chief of Acute Care Surgery, along with Jennifer Bath, R.N., published an invited commentary on "The Effects of a Novel Mindfulness-Based Intervention on Nurses' State Mindfulness and Patient Satisfaction in the Emergency Department" in the Journal of Emergency Nursing.
Mark Greenawald, M.D., and John Epling, M.D. from Family and Community Medicine celebrated the 400th edition of their weekly clinical e-newsletter “Take 3 – Practical Practice Pointers.” Started eight years ago as a way to keep all clinicians in the department informed about clinical advances in primary care medical practice, Take 3 is now read by numerous clinicians throughout the country each week and has awarded thousands of hours of CME.
Elizabeth Polk, M.D., Family and Community Medicine, co-authored a new guideline for the American Academy of Family Physicians: “Incorporating Lifestyle Medicine into Everyday Family Practice.”
Robert Trestman, Ph.D., M.D., Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, presented to the American Hospital Association staff meeting on “Health Systems Behavioral Health Transformations During and After the Pandemic” on June 17.
Quality vendor Vizient selected Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer Patrice M. Weiss, M.D., and Director of Human Factors Research and Senior Director of the Center for Simulation, Research and Patient Safety Sarah Parker, Ph.D., to present “Human Centered Design Approach to COVID PPE Challenges” at its November in-person summit in Las Vegas, Nevada.
