High school students learn about health professions in VTCSOM-SOVAH Health partnership

More than 20 high school students recently took a deep dive into health care through hands-on learning at Sovah Health facilities in Martinsville and Danville.  The event, held last month, was part of VTCSOM’s Health Professions Enrichment Program (HPEP).

In Martinsville, students were introduced to different career possibilities in radiology. They toured the hospital’s radiology department and visited a simulation lab for nursing sciences.

In Danville, students engaged in activities in laboratory services, radiology, nursing, and surgery. They took part in a surgical reality experience and had a hands-on experience to learn how the heart pumps throughout the body.

HPEP is an educational outreach program through VTCSOM for high school students who are passionate about science and health-related careers.
