Dr. Van Wart plays a lead role in developing graduate programs in biomedical sciences at Virginia Tech through the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute. She also coordinates a range of training activities, including undergraduate research mentoring, master’s degree and doctoral programs, postdoctoral training, resident and fellow training, and collaborative training efforts between the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute and other universities in the United States and abroad.
Dr. Van Wart earned her doctorate in neurobiology and behavior at the State University of New York at Stony Brook before undertaking a postdoctoral fellowship at the Picower Institute for Learning and Memory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. For the three years prior to joining the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, she worked at Cell Press, most recently as the associate scientific editor of the biomedical journal Neuron.
