The academic medicine club serves as an additional resource for students interested in careers as physician-scientists. Through local and regional events, the club aims to foster awareness and engagement in the multiple facets of academic medicine, including research, teaching endeavors, and bridging of the two.
Members of the academic medicine club are involved in:
- Panels with VTCSOM faculty and upperclass students on academic medicine
- Webinars in collaboration with other medical school academic medicine clubs
- Mentorship with academic physicians in the community who have emphasized research and medicine in their careers
- Mentorship with Virginia Tech pre-med students
- Journal clubs with Academic Medicine and other related journals
