The Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) is an AAMC accredited affinity group that includes faculty, medical schools, and teaching hospitals.
The GWIMS mission states “The Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) advances the full and successful participation and inclusion of women within academic medicine by addressing gender equity, recruitment and retention, awards and recognition, and career advancement.”
The VTC Chapter focuses on providing a space for promotion of dialogue surrounding what it means to be a woman in medicine, supporting the health of our community, and creating networking opportunities.
Past events have included:
- actionable advocacy panels
- student/physician mentorship program
- female health screening fair
- networking events with Carilion stakeholders
