The Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine interest group includes VTCSOM students who are interested in the provision of high-quality clinical care to individuals and families facing the unique challenges posed by advanced illness and late life.
No matter what specialty you’re interested in, you will be interacting with older adults and patients requiring palliative care in your future career! Therefore, membership and participation in this group is open to all VTCSOM students.
The primary focus of this group is to meet the needs of geriatric patients and those standing to benefit from palliative intervention through education, community outreach, and student-patient involvement.
Future events include:
- Pain management workshop and OSCE at the Center for Simulation, Research, and Patient Safety
- Interactive seminar on advance care planning with Carilion Clinic faculty
- Intergenerational cooking class
- Advanced skills in memory screening workshop
