The Pride Alliance at VTCSOM is a chapter of a national organization, the Medical Student Pride Alliance. Members hold shared visions of "empowering sexual and gender minority medical students and allies, increasing the number of physicians trained in LGBTQ-inclusive healthcare, and addressing the unique needs of queer communities through research, advocacy, education, and service."
In the short term, the chapter will be creating visibility and community for incoming and current VTCSOM students as well as residents and graduate students. We will support efforts to update curricula and policies/procedures to be inclusive of LGBTQ+ patients and health concerns. We also hope to invite speakers in the medical field to discuss topics relevant to LGBTQ+ health and to collaborate with community based organizations committed to advancing LGBTQ+ equality.
